The HP Officejet Pro 8500A is a big heavy unit packed with features, including many Web based features. Read about them all in the manual - but to my annoyance, I needed to download this from hp.com, all 242 pages - it is not packed as a booklet and is not included on the software DVD! To have to go out and make an effort to obtain the instruction manual is a bit much. The feature that attracted me most was the provision for wireless operation. I have a small office where space is at a premium. I was able to set this up in a far away corner with no cables connecting to the computer at all; it runs perfectly off my home wireless network.

Printing of basic black and white text documents gives nice sharp results. Held up against the output from my cheapo laser printer, it produces a heavier line, so you may wish to change your font selections accordingly. Color printing gave nice output on HP Premium Presentation paper, which costs about NRs. 550  for 150 sheets. Scanning worked OK unless I choose the highest resolution, in which case it became painfully slow, almost useless. In operation the 8500 goes through an impressive series of grunts and flops as it shakes, rattles and rolls to adjust itself or produce pages.
