Sony A55 is packed of amazing features. You can find an Auto HDR & Sweep Panorama features, the same that was used on Sony NEX-5 mirrorless cameras. The Sweep Panorama allows photographers to easily capture panoramic photographs without stitching them using software. All you have to do is sweep you camera from one side to the other, and you get a high resolution panorama images, automatically!
The Auto HDR feature, allows photographers to create in-camera HDR photos, by combining identical photos, taken in different exposure settings. HDR photos can better expose highlight and shadow details.

Pros AND Cons: 
Pros:
- Size and weight - the A55 is relatively small and light
- High ISO performance - very good high ISO image quality including the innovative Multi-frame NR mode which allows to photograph in ridiculously high ISO with very low noise
- Sweep panorama - taking panorama shots has never been easier
- Live view - shooting with quick focus using the either the viewfinder or the LCD screen
- Quick auto focus during video shooting
- Very quick continues shooting (even not in the special 10 fps mode)
- Articulated LCD screen which can also be folded back for protection
- Easy to use menus and controls
- Compatible with Minolta lenses

Cons:
- Battery life - battery life not as good as the old Alphas, need to buy an extra battery
- EVF - it takes some time getting use to it but it enables operating the camera (including photo playback) without having to look at the LCD screen.
- Video shooting in hot environments can cause the image sensor to overheat and the camera will stop shooting. Turning off the image stabilization alleviates this a bit.

It is a fine camera and easy to use. Like canon and nikon Sony has a nice upgrade to a pro system and a wide array of lenses.  I do recommend however getting a 50mm as it is a better lens for portraits than the kit lens
